SWANC Issues

SWANC was founded to be the leading voice for stormwater interests before state-level decision-makers, and our members have influenced policy discussions in numerous different ways. Here are the principles that guide our actions:

Stormwater legislation and regulation should:

  1. Protect lives, property, and the environment
  2. Be consistent with the federal Clean Water Act
  3. Be scientifically sound
  4. Be economically feasible
  5. Be practical to implement at the state and local levels
  6. Account for long-term financial and environmental impact
  7. Be based on local site conditions (not a one size fits all approach)
  8. Be equitable and not over burdensome
  9. Emphasize local authority and control
  10. Be funded or paired with a funding source
