SWANC was founded to be the leading voice for stormwater interests before state-level decision-makers, and our members have influenced policy discussions in numerous different ways. Here are the principles that guide our actions:
Stormwater legislation and regulation should:
- Protect lives, property, and the environment
- Be consistent with the federal Clean Water Act
- Be scientifically sound
- Be economically feasible
- Be practical to implement at the state and local levels
- Account for long-term financial and environmental impact
- Be based on local site conditions (not a one size fits all approach)
- Be equitable and not over burdensome
- Emphasize local authority and control
- Be funded or paired with a funding source
